2 Weeks To Go!

Now there is only 2 weeks to go until One All takes over the football pitch of Arthurlie football club and as you may have seen in news, the show has sold out! This is very exciting news for everyone involved and we can’t wait for the show. Rehearsals are now in full swing and coming together nicely. We can’t wait for One All!

What have the text group been up to?

The text group is a dozen S3 pupils from Barrhead High School who meet one morning a week to create text for the show One All Barrhead.

Together we have been investigating different styles of writing and delivering text. The ways in which we have been gathering information so far have varied greatly. The tasks have been fun and interesting for us all but we don’t want to give too much away just yet!

With the help of friends, family and members of the community links have been made through everybody helping to complete simple sentences about Barrhead. Here are the sentences below:

My favourite place in Barrhead is…

The funniest thing that ever happened to me in Barrhead was…

The problem with Barrhead is…

My first memory of Barrhead…

Barrhead needs…

Barrhead is the best because…

All of these questions were created by the S3 students and have resulted in some interesting answers.

Look forward to seeing you at the show!

3 weeks to go!

So now it’s only 3 weeks to go and everyone is starting to get really excited about the upcoming show. As you may have seen in the news pages, the tickets for the show are now available. Get yours from the Barrhead sports centre before they all go.

The show is now starting to take shape and it won’t be long before we’re moving down to the football pitch.

Have you seen the signs? This week blue and white signs have appeared all around Barrhead. These have been made by students from Barrhead High and they have all chosen a special location for their sign that means something to them. Joining the student’s signs, the Barrhead Players, the Sequence Dancers, the Dunterlie Dancing Feet and the ladies who attend the bingo at Arthurlie Social Club, have all also contributed a sign each. Keep an eye out for them all around the town!

Community Involvement

During our time in Barrhead we want to meet as many members of the community as we can and one way of doing this is by going to community groups.

The first group we engaged with was the Dunterlie Dancing Feet. A group that meets every Monday morning to line dance in the Dunterlie community centre. This has become a regular start to our week and we are all improving our line dancing skills. We’ve had so much fun learning how to line dance; the group have made us feel so welcome  and we’re so glad they are part of the show.

We have also been going along to the bingo in the Arthurlie Social Club on a Tuesday. Some of us have done quite well on the bingo!

Another dancing group we have been joining in with are the sequence dancers who meet in the Sports Centre on a Thursday and a Friday. Some of the dances are a bit tricky but we’re starting to get the hang of them now and it’s so much fun learning a different style of dance.

Getting Closer!

The intensive week is now over and the show is coming together. All groups in the intensive week have made some amazing work and now the community members who are taking part in the show are also getting involved.

Our costumes have been ordered which is very exciting, though i won’t give away here what we will be wearing. They are though, going to look great!

Keep an eye out around Barrhead, because very soon you will see signs appearing. Created by the design group, these all have there own location in Barrhead before they will move to the football ground for the show.

Things are moving on and the show is getting closer and closer. We all can’t wait now. It’s going to be great!

The Show Begins

The show, One All, is currently being created in collaboration with the third years of Barrhead High. Since Christmas the students have chosen to take one of five strands; movement, media, text, design or music, and have been creating material for the show. But what’s been happening so far?

Movement have been working on various movement sequences which will go at the beginning and during the show. I was lucky enough to be invited in to see a short section that the movement group have been working on and its very exciting! As well as the movement sections, this group will also be working on a line dance in collaboration with the Dunterlie Dancing Feet that will hopefully also involve a large section of the community and a sequence dance with another local community group.

The media group are working on a video of a football being kicked around Barrhead. They have been working really hard on this and have over 30 shots done already. Community members have also been involved in this, thanks to everyone who has kicked a football for us! A second video is also in the pipeline and more information will be posted on this as it’s created.

Design group are just about to start to make signs similar to the advert boards in the football ground. Keep an eye out for these as they will be appearing out and about in Barrhead about 2 weeks before the show.

The music group have split into a singing ensemble, a band and electronic music and are busy creating the sounds of the show. The band will soon begin work on writing a song about Barrhead and are also working on a song about Shanks. The singers will be performing two songs currently being rehearsed and the electronic music section are creating some very exciting pieces of music using sounds from Barrhead. From the community, a local singer Samantha Hill and cabaret act Burt Turner are getting involved, as is the contributor of the Shanks song, Archie Boyd.

You may well have noticed the text group out and about round Barrhead interviewing people. They’ll be working this into the text for the show.

So far we have been doing one workshop a week with the students, and next week is the second of our intensive weeks where we will be spending all week in the school. During this time we hope to bring in all the community members we are working with and start to bring all the material we have so far together.

Check back here at the end every week for an update of what’s been happening in the run up to One All.
