Who is behind town’s mystery sign invasion?

You may have seen in the latest copy of the Barrhead news; signs have been appearing all round the town. It’s a mystery who’s been making these signs and putting them up, but as the paper quoted one Barrhead resident; “I suppose they help to brighten the town up if nothing else and it makes the drive to work a bit cheerier.”

Have you seen the signs?

What have the text group been up to?

The text group is a dozen S3 pupils from Barrhead High School who meet one morning a week to create text for the show One All Barrhead.

Together we have been investigating different styles of writing and delivering text. The ways in which we have been gathering information so far have varied greatly. The tasks have been fun and interesting for us all but we don’t want to give too much away just yet!

With the help of friends, family and members of the community links have been made through everybody helping to complete simple sentences about Barrhead. Here are the sentences below:

My favourite place in Barrhead is…

The funniest thing that ever happened to me in Barrhead was…

The problem with Barrhead is…

My first memory of Barrhead…

Barrhead needs…

Barrhead is the best because…

All of these questions were created by the S3 students and have resulted in some interesting answers.

Look forward to seeing you at the show!

3 weeks to go!

So now it’s only 3 weeks to go and everyone is starting to get really excited about the upcoming show. As you may have seen in the news pages, the tickets for the show are now available. Get yours from the Barrhead sports centre before they all go.

The show is now starting to take shape and it won’t be long before we’re moving down to the football pitch.

Have you seen the signs? This week blue and white signs have appeared all around Barrhead. These have been made by students from Barrhead High and they have all chosen a special location for their sign that means something to them. Joining the student’s signs, the Barrhead Players, the Sequence Dancers, the Dunterlie Dancing Feet and the ladies who attend the bingo at Arthurlie Social Club, have all also contributed a sign each. Keep an eye out for them all around the town!

International Women’s Day

Saturday saw a day of activity in Barrhead for International Women’s Day. The days events were held at the Carlibar Primary School and included stalls as well as demonstrations and workshops for all ages.

The women of the Dunterlie Dancing Feet gave a demonstration of the line dances they do and some of the women from the One All team went along to join them.

The day was a great success and the line dancing went down very well. We managed to remember all the moves! Thank you to all the organisers and the Dunterlie Dancing feet ladies for inviting us to join in.

Community Involvement

During our time in Barrhead we want to meet as many members of the community as we can and one way of doing this is by going to community groups.

The first group we engaged with was the Dunterlie Dancing Feet. A group that meets every Monday morning to line dance in the Dunterlie community centre. This has become a regular start to our week and we are all improving our line dancing skills. We’ve had so much fun learning how to line dance; the group have made us feel so welcome  and we’re so glad they are part of the show.

We have also been going along to the bingo in the Arthurlie Social Club on a Tuesday. Some of us have done quite well on the bingo!

Another dancing group we have been joining in with are the sequence dancers who meet in the Sports Centre on a Thursday and a Friday. Some of the dances are a bit tricky but we’re starting to get the hang of them now and it’s so much fun learning a different style of dance.
